1. Who we are
olowo is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform provided by Balad Ltd, company number 09026647, registered at 35–37 Ludgate Hill, London, England, EC4M 7JN.
Balad Ltd is responsible for the personal information processed through olowo and is the data controller where applicable.
In Nigeria, Balad Project Management Limited has been appointed by Balad Ltd to provide certain local operational, implementation and support services for olowo.
Balad Ltd provides the olowo software platform. It does not itself provide regulated payment, banking or remittance services.
2. Information we collect
Depending on the services you use, we may collect:
- your name, email address, telephone number and account details;
- business, tax and financial information you provide to olowo;
- bank account information, balances and transaction data where you connect an account;
- information relating to payments or transfers you request;
- device, login, security and usage information; and
- communications with us.
We do not ask you to provide your online banking password to olowo.
3. How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- provide and operate olowo;
- connect and display bank-account and transaction information;
- enable payment and remittance functionality;
- provide financial, accounting and tax-related software features;
- authenticate users and maintain security;
- provide customer support;
- improve and maintain our services; and
- comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
We process information where necessary to perform our contract with you, comply with legal obligations, pursue our legitimate interests, or where you have given consent.
4. Bank feeds and payment services
Where you choose to use connected banking or payment functionality, your information may be shared with the relevant regulated provider.
United Kingdom – Finexer
Finexer provides regulated UK bank-feed/account information and payment initiation services. Where applicable, Balad Ltd acts as an agent of Finexer for access to those services through olowo. Balad Ltd does not itself provide the underlying regulated payment services.
Nigeria – Mono
Mono provides banking connectivity, financial account information and supported payment infrastructure for Nigerian users. Your information is shared with Mono only where required to provide services you choose to use.
Remittances – Rhemito
Where you use remittance functionality through olowo, the underlying remittance service is provided by Rhemito. Balad Ltd provides access through the olowo platform but does not itself provide the regulated remittance service.
You will be asked to provide the appropriate authorisation or consent before a bank account is connected or relevant financial data is accessed. You can disconnect connected accounts and withdraw relevant permissions, subject to any legal or regulatory retention requirements.
5. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information where necessary with:
- Finexer, Mono, Rhemito and other providers you choose to use through olowo;
- Balad Project Management Limited for relevant Nigerian operations and support;
- hosting, security, communications and other technology providers;
- professional advisers; and
- regulators, law-enforcement agencies or other authorities where legally required.
Service providers are permitted to use information only for the purposes for which it is provided, subject to their own legal and regulatory obligations where applicable.
6. International transfers
Because olowo operates across the UK and Nigeria and uses technology and financial-service providers, personal information may be processed outside your country.
Where required, Balad Ltd uses appropriate contractual, organisational and technical safeguards for international transfers of personal information.
7. How long we keep information
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide our services and meet legal, accounting, tax, security and regulatory requirements.
Some financial and transaction records may therefore need to be retained after you close your olowo account.
8. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may ask us to:
- provide a copy of your personal information;
- correct inaccurate information;
- delete information;
- restrict or object to processing;
- provide certain information in a portable format; or
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
UK users also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Nigerian users have rights under applicable Nigerian data protection legislation, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
9. Cookies
olowo uses cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to operate the website and app securely.
We may also use optional analytics or functionality cookies to understand how olowo is used and improve the service. Where consent is legally required, these cookies will not be used until you consent.
You can change your cookie preferences or withdraw consent at any time through the cookie settings available on olowo.
10. Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encryption, access controls, authentication, monitoring and secure cloud infrastructure.
No internet-based service can guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our services, providers or legal requirements change. The latest version will be made available through olowo.
